The CPO launch playbook

A short guide in six steps, from choosing sites to your first paying driver.

1. Pick sites by dwell time, not traffic

Match charger power to how long cars stay. Shops and offices suit 11–22 kW AC; motorway stops need 150 kW+ DC.

2. Check the grid connection early

Ask the network owner what the site can take before you order hardware. Load management lets more chargers share a small connection.

3. Choose OCPP hardware

Any charger that speaks OCPP 1.6J or 2.0.1 keeps you free to change software later.

4. Set a simple first tariff

Start with a price per kWh. Add time-of-use or spot-linked pricing once you have a few months of data.

5. Decide how drivers start a session

RFID tags, a QR page, an app or a payment terminal. New public DC chargers in the EU must accept card payment (AFIR).

6. Watch uptime per site

Measure availability per site and respond to faults within hours. Reliability is what drivers remember.
